We are by now in the midst of our kitchen renovation...all the contents of the kitchen are placed across the family room and it is very messy indeed. We have set up a tiny coffee station with the microwave on a table, but have no sink or water in the kitchen, hence need to run to the laundry for every little bit. It's interesting to say the least. Dinners are a hassle as we also have no cook top as yet. During last week the work men were in and out so I did not do much at ...

It's been a couple of weeks again since I posted last. We have been incredibly busy with our upcoming kitchen renovation. All of a sudden it was all go, go go...we have been running around literally the whole week looking at appliances, getting things organised and life in general.
Hi there!
Black background, with a small border in a contrast colour, and thread to match the contrast. and start quilting!
Unfortunately the virtual gold thread I have used for the quilting appears more like white thread, which is rather frustrating because I have been playing with this project file for quite some time and there are a large number of quilt designs which I had hoped would look better than they do here. Maybe they will look better when the post is published.
There also some ghost lines along border lines, but I hope you can ignore them.
Love the design ...

Start with a blank canvas, or a plain quilt sandwich!
I prefer the first design, with the virtual border around the centre design.

Basically, for one year, you make a block every day that denotes the high and low temperatures of the day using a color gradient. Over the course of a year, you end up with a neat color gradation.
I think many of these quilts are absolutely stunning in their visual impact, but the science side of me doesn’t feel like they convey a whole lot of interesting information, other than the ...

Love the design despite the colouring (I don’t like blues) but I can also see this design with the blocks in the centre diamond with added colour pieces.
Love the second design as well. Smaller, but with some added contrast amongst the quilting.
read moreI love pretty much every design in this project though the background colour is dull. However, that was the colour which worked best to show the virtual quilting, and it would probably look good in many modern bedrooms.
Today’s favourite is the second design.

Hopefully I will get the week sorted by tomorrow and will treat the day like a normal Friday!
This project file is my virtual view of the back of some virtual Log Cabin designs after quilting … after all, every quilter wants to see the back of every quilt we see.
In these designs I have shown the dark ...

I love it.
However, regular light coloured quilting thread would get lost in the dark shadows of a dark fabric … I would use a crochet cotton, and maybe try longer stitches on top, separated by short stitches on the back.
Love the second one!

Love the first …
… and the second!
Did you know that almost every applique design, and pieced design too, can be used as a quilting motif? That is why we like to see the back of a quilt as well as the front.
Also, modern waddings do not need to be quilted nearly as closely as those which were made before the middle of last century. After all, some quilters wash wadding before they put it into the quilt sandwich.

I love it!
Love the second too, and love the both thread colours as well as the quilting designs.

A simple, elegant wholecloth design.
One thread colour for the motifs, and a colour to match the background for whatever filling is desired.
I like all three of them.

Somedays I share quilt designs I like, sometimes I love them … sometimes I just go WOW! Today is one of those.
I chose this project file because I thought something quiet and gentle would be nice, but I had forgotten that I added some colour to the designs remaining in this project.
I forgot all about keeping today’s designs restful. These are more of a wake up call!
If nothing else I love how clear the quilting is.
